Abstract

A review of Nordic qualitative literature on recreational intoxicant-use among young adults in search of context, embodiment and gender. In doing this, we have had two main intentions. Firstly, we evaluate and explore the perspectives and styles of reasoning (cf. Sulkunen 2005) that are used in the reviewed studies. We focus especially on what kinds of perspectives are used in the reviewed studies to frame the analysis and present the uses of intoxicants, and by styles of reasoning mean the ways in which specific perspectives are used in interpreting empirical findings. Secondly, we attempt to suggest additional and alternative perspectives that we think have the potential to enrich and deepen our understanding of current intoxicant uses among young adults.
